| American Graffiti 1973 Rated: PG Starring: Richard Dreyfuss, et al. Director: George Lucas
The action (in American Graffiti) is propelled by the music of Wolfman Jack's rock & roll radio show--a soundtrack of pop hits that would become as popular as the film itself. As Lucas develops several character subplots, American Graffiti becomes a flawless time capsule of meticulously re-created memory, as authentic as a documentary and vividly realized through innovative use of cinematography and sound. The once-in-a-lifetime ensemble cast members inhabit their roles so fully that they don't seem like actors at all, comprising a who's who of performers--some of whom went on to stellar careers--including Ron Howard, Richard Dreyfuss, Harrison Ford, Cindy Williams, Mackenzie Phillips, Charles Martin Smith, Candy Clark, and Paul Le Mat. A true American classic, the film ranks No. 77 on the American Film Institute's list of all-time greatest American movies. --Jeff Shannon

Wild Wheels 1992 (Bay Area director) Harrod Blanc VHS Rated: NR
Review |
| Rendezvous 1992 VHS Rated: NR Starring: Claude Lelouch, et al. A viewer from New York , March 17, 1999 See why he was arrrested for making this movie. An action-packed ten minute film. Lelouch strapped a 16mm camera to the front of his car and took off to meet his wife before the can of film ran out. He races through the streets of Paris at top speed, narrowly missing other cars, people and those pesky trash trucks! It had me screaming because it was real. It wasn't done with any special effects. When the film was screened, Lelouch was arrested. Watch this film and see why. |
Death Race 2000 1975 Rated: R VHS DVD Starring: Carradine, Stallone, et al. Director: Paul Bartel
Paul Bartel's (Eating Raoul, Rock 'n' Roll High School) cheap-o satire about a futuristic international sport--an anything-goes car race where drivers score points for hitting pedestrians--stars David Carradine as a hero behind the wheel and Sylvester Stallone as his nemesis. The film is clever and macabre
enough as a modernist satire, but finally overplays its hand in grim, decadent humor. The sets are gloriously artificial, and former Warhol star Mary Woronov is in sexy, comic form. A DVD release is available. --Tom Keogh |
