September Bay Area 02 Gathering The September 2001 Bay Area 02 adventure will be in Santa Cruz County. We will meet at Foothill College off 280 at El Monte/Moody Road in Los Altos. Plan to meet at 10:00am and depart at 10:30am. This is about a 90 mile drive with some very aggressive accents and descends, and a good mix of twisties and sweepers. The route is generally as follows. From Foothill College we will go up Moody Road to Buena Vista then to Hwy. 35 (Skyline Blvd.) then down to Hwy 236 through Big Basin for a rest stop. Then on to Jamison Creek for a super nasty twistie uphill to the long sweepers of Empire Grade and south into Santa Cruz to Natural Bridges. This marks the start of our coastal route past Steamer Lane and the Lighthouse, skip the Boardwalk (too many touristas), then on to the Yacht Harbor, Pleasure Point, Shark’s Cove, Capitola, and finally Soquel. Once we’ve gathered in Soquel we’ll climb back up into the SC Mountains for a social gathering at Burrell School Vineyards. Saturday will be one of the wineries regular tasting days, and for food please either bring a picnic lunch, or stop at Summit Store right before the winery. Detailed Route
