The tii vs the regular '02

The tii was the performance version, and because of this, it was the more expensive model. Today, the tii is still the more expensive model and is sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike, even though the seeming complexity of it's fuel injection confounds and frustrates many inexperienced mechanics.

Basic tii differences:

  • Kugelfischer Mechanical Fuel Injection
  • Different distributor
  • Different exhaust
  • Different suspension (bigger front struts and boxed rear control arms)
  • Larger brakes front and rear, wider wheels, interior clock

Look, no carb! The 2002 tii engine.

The regular 2002 was a terrific car in it's own right, and was often modified with tii or aftermarket parts to make it's performance equal to or better than a tii. But almost any way you look at it, a tii will cost you more money than a 2002 in comparable shape.

How much, you wonder? Depends on the body. Rust and body damage make the difference here, as the mechanicals are easy to repair/replace and are reasonable pricewise. Pricewise.....the best way to get an idea of prices is to look in classified ads in the newspaper or the internet somewhere for an idea of what certain cars are being advertised at.

Along the way, you'll get an idea of what your hard-earned dollars can buy. If you can, try to enlist the help of a local friend or someone else who has a 2002 so you can learn from their experiences.
