Intro Like--for--Like Outside the Box

Sometimes we do it because we need to, sometimes because we want to follow a whimsy. The reasons for swapping the engines in our 02s naturally vary from driver to driver. Perhaps the original engine locked up, perhaps it leaked oil by the quarts, just maybe it didn't provide enough power to satisfy the need for speed. Whatever the motivation, these guys swapped the engines in their boxy Bimmers. Some did a like--for--like exchange with a rebuilt engine, others went outside the box (and sometimes outside their wallets). Maybe you can benefit from their mistakes...er, experiences. Read their advice, consider its value, take from it what you will if the desire to do the swap hits ya.
