If you haven't been living under a rock in the last couple of years you've probably noticed a lot of attention focused lately on oil in the media, in conversations overheard or with friends and ultimately in your wallet when you fill up. For this reason it seems fitting for us to present some articles on the possible future alternatives to oil and the future of the automobile.

From President Bush to pundits in the media, hydrogen fuel cell technology has been talked about quite a bit lately. However, not a lot of us really know what this technology is all about. It's been hailed as the greatest innovation since the internal combustion engine, but is the technology really all it's hyped-up to be?

Cars badged like this could, one day, become a common sight on our roads.

In the next few months Bay Area 02 is going to republish recent columns that originally appeared in the Golden Gate BMW CCA newsletter: Die Flüsternde Bombe. The column: "Slower Traffic Ahead" is written by columnist Twisted Rhodes. This multi-part series is called "Die Wundervolle Welt des Wasserstoffs" or "The Wonderful World of Hydrogen."

As a publisher of this Web site and an 02 enthusiast I hope I can bring some perspective to current notions about fuel cell technology. At the same time, it's important to consider some sobering news: mainly that our cars may become obsolete before they actually wear out.

We hope these articles are interesting to you and as always feel free to send us your comments.

JP Collins, publisher.
