Favorite Memories
Among Dan's prized memories are "when the first of our four children smelled
dairy cattle on the I-5 between L.A. and S.F. and barfed all over the back
seat. I fondly remember driving that same highway years earlier, in the
middle of the night with Linda, listening to the long version of Sugarloaf's
'Green-eyed Lady' on the radio. And I still get chills remembering the
speedometer needle climbing towards 120 on the long, straight downhill
outside of Reno. My nerve gave out long before the car found its speed limit."

William's '69 Bristol gray helped him relieve stress. "I'd drive my 2002 in
the winding roads of the Taunus Mountains outside of Frankfurt. I really
enjoyed those quiet Sunday afternoons, all alone up in the mountains really
pushing the BMW through the curves."
David also prizes the many miles of highway he and Molly have shared. "I have
so many great memories of places I've been, great drives I've taken, women
I've squired around. I remember driving to Oktoberfest '74 (Connecticut),
where I drove her in my first drivers school. I remember driving all over
the mountains of Virginia and West Virginia, laying out courses for the Bob
Ridges Memorial Rally. More recently, I remember driving her, freshly
restored, to Oktoberfest '97, winning trophies in each event we entered and
particularly sitting around at the concours as old friends and new
acquaintances stopped by to admire her."

Among Kris' favorite memories are power slides/drifts in the northern New
York snow country and "about nine people in formal wear after a rowdy but
formal dinner with about half the guys poked through the sunroof, heading
down the main street of Oak Harbor, Washington."
Kathy has two favorite moments: "My favorite artist/photographer got in the
car and looked around at the scenery outside. I saw through his eyes, and the
world opened up 360 degrees.
"In August (1999), I test-drove new Volkswagen models -- Jetta and Bug. Nice
clean cars, real new, good sound systems. Air conditioning! I wanted one but
wasn't completely comfortable with either. The new Beetle has poor all-around
view, the Jetta just felt ordinary, and I couldn't find a color I liked. Then
I got back into my 23-year-old 2002 and said, 'This feels right!' Even though
the heater was stuck on this summer and the seats need restuffing among
various other minor things, it's a great car. It turned on immediately (it
never did in its first incarnation), and I roared off happily."
Amy K. Hooper has lived with Tank Girl for only three years but plans to hold
onto her for a while.
